Every year we try to out-do the last – well I think we have exceeded any expectations for this year! The entries have come in all shapes and sizes with the new category of ‘Group Art’ and ‘Enviro Art’.

The workshop

Sunday the 14th saw another great workshop held at the Millennium for entrants and sponsors to be informed of this years wearable creations and colour awards. Hosted by the Rotorua Creative Arts trust, Chair Barbara Cook took pleasure in presenting wall plaques to the sponsors present in recognition of their assistance in this years event. Past entrants including youth and corporate shared their experiences with the potential entrants, and judge/ trustee Terry Wheeler gave some insight into the judging process.

Over 40 people attended the Rotorua Wearable Creations ‘n Colour Workshop at RAVE on  Saturday the 7th of March. Attendees were given the opportunity to meet and ask questions of judges and previous winners, followed on by a “hands on” opportunity to begin the creative process with a variety of materials. Those are the words of encouragement Rotorua's Blue Baths managing director Jo Romanes has for would-be contestants in the Wearable Creations 'n Colour Awards
Last year Jo and her staff were runners-up in the corporate section of the hotly-contested event. They are unanimous that the experience was both great fun and a definite team building experience.

What began as a one-off fundraiser for young African musicians stranded in Rotorua has become an annual showcase for the region's creative talent.
In six years the Wearable Creations 'n Colour Awards have become the platform for a slew of talented entrants from across the age groups. In turn, they draw capacity audiences.
